Premature Ejaculation Therapy Not Supported by Evidence

 Research Source: The Cochrane Library

KEY POINTS
  • Little evidence supports behavioral therapy as an effective intervention for premature ejaculation, according to a new Cochrane review.
  • Behavioral therapy for premature ejaculation can include different positions, better control of movements, more mental focus, a start-stop approach and some medications.
  • Therapy for premature ejaculation can cost $100 or more a session and eight sessions may be necessary over the course of several months.
A new review finds little reliable research to support treating premature ejaculation by teaching men how to control their bodies with their minds. Still, two of the review authors say it is too early to discount so-called behavioral therapy.
