Ground Breaking Device For The Treatment Of Premature Ejaculation

Dr Andy Zamar, a Consultant Psychiatrist, Member and Gold Medallist of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, presented at the 20th World Congress for Sexual Health in Glasgow in June 2011 a new, recently approved treatment for premature ejaculation

(EMAILWIRE.COM, , 2011 ) London, England -- The Boots Pharmaceuticals Delay Device marks the first time that a treatment has been made available to men who lack control over ejaculation that is effective, affordable and available without prescription. In addition, unlike other treatments, is also side effect free, has no contraindications and will deliver sustained results in those who improve on the treatment programme. The Delay Device has been approved for the treatment of premature ejaculation in the European Economic Area, (EEA) as a non-prescription Class IIA medical device.

The conference heard that Dr Zamar had invented a device which, used in a specific training programme with the start stop technique practiced at least 3 times weekly for 6 weeks, was found to substantially delay time to ejaculation in two independent clinical trials. Both trials tested the prototype of the current approved device (see notes to editors).

The Delay Device, used with the specially designed training programme, can be used as a stand-alone treatment for premature ejaculation, or can be combined with other treatments clinicians or sufferers may choose (such as local anaesthetics, psychosexual therapy and SSRI antidepressants)

Premature ejaculation has many definitions but essentially is a condition characterized by lack of or poor control over ejaculation which results in poor satisfaction with sexual intercourse for either or both partners. It is known to affect around 20-30% of sexually active men across all age groups according to large studies conducted in the United States, Italy and Germany, showing a similar prevalence of premature ejaculation in those countries.

Dr Zamar teamed up with Boots UK to launch the Delay Device, based upon the trial prototype, as part of the Boots Pharmaceuticals Mens Sexual Wellbeing range, in over 1600 stores and on boots.com.

As the Delay Device may take several weeks for the maximum effect, men can use local anaesthetics or SSRIs drugs to obtain an immediate or same day effect, whilst starting training with the Delay Device to deliver longer-term improvements in duration, hence reducing reliance on these more short-term solutions. The Delay Device can also be used in Psychosexual Therapy of couples who choose this route where relations are affected.

The Delay Device avoids the issue of stigma traditionally encountered in the treatment of premature ejaculation, as it can be discreetly purchased in Boots stores or via boots.com as a non-prescription item. As the Delay Device is not used during intercourse, except if the couple choose to use it during foreplay, the sexual partner does not necessarily have to know about the sufferer's issue of premature ejaculation.

Robert Gilbert, Director of Boots Pharmaceuticals for Boots UK, says: “Treatment for premature ejaculation has historically been difficult to deliver to sufferers due to many factors including cost, the paucity of approved treatments, side effects, the need to see a doctor or therapist as well as the attached stigma inhibiting men from seeking help openly.” The Boots Pharmaceuticals Mens Sexual Wellbeing Delay Device provides an effective solution to these problems, in the form of a discreet, safe, non-prescription treatment that offers a long-term approach to sufferers of premature ejaculation.
The device is currently half price (£14.99) in Boots stores
